biography
Mezzo-soprano Judith Braun studied opera, music education and elementary music education at the Saarland University of Music. She completed her training in the lied class of Prof Irvin Gage and attended masterclasses with Wolfram Rieger, Gabriele Schnaut and Kirsten Schötteldreier.
2006 she made her debut with the Badisches Staatstheater Karlsruhe in Cagliari as Siegrune in the opera "Die Walküre". Since 2006, the mezzo-soprano has been a regular guest at the Saarländisches Staatstheater, where she has been engaged as a lyric mezzo-soprano since the 2009/2010 season.
In the 2017-2019 seasons, Judith Braun switched to the dramatic mezzo repertoire with the roles of Herodias in "Salome", Hedwige in "Guillaume Tell" and Fenena in "Nabucco". She was celebrated here in 2020 with her debut as Princess Eboli in "Don Carlos" under the musical direction of Sébastien Rouland.
In the current 2023-2024 season, she made a highly acclaimed debut as Judith in "Bluebeard's Castle" and as Fricka and Waltraute in "Die Walküre". She will also be singing the main role in the opera "Jeanne d`arc" and Amneris in "Aida" this season.
Judith Braun was a scholarship holder of the Richard Wagner Association, a finalist at the 5th Concorso Vocale Internazionale di Musica Sacra in Rome (2006) and was awarded the Saarland State Theatre's Sponsor Club Prize for her outstanding performances in the 2016/2017 season as Anita in "West Side Story" and Kabanicha in "Katja Kabanova".
Judith Braun has been teaching singing and vocal didactics at the Saarland University of Music since April 2020.
Numerous concerts and opera performances with Judith Braun have been recorded or broadcasted live by Saarländischer Rundfunk, including Bach cantatas with the Ensemble Parlando (2007), the Requiem by Théodore Gouvy (2023) and the German premiere of the opera "Ophelia" by Sarah Nemtsov (2023).
Die Mezzosopranistin Judith Braun studierte an der Hochschule für Musik und Theater des Saarlandes die Fächer Oper, Musikerziehung und Elementare Musikpädagogik. Sie vervollkommnete ihre Ausbildung in der Liedklasse von Prof. Irvin Gage und absolvierte Meisterkurse bei Wolfram Rieger, Gabriele Schnaut und Kirsten Schötteldreier.
2006 hatte sie mit dem Badischen Staatstheater Karlsruhe in Cagliari ihr Début als Siegrune in der Oper »Die Walküre«. Seit der Spielzeit 2009/2010 ist sie als Mezzosopran am Staatstheater Saarbrücken engagiert und singt dort inzwischen die dramatischen Partien ihres Fachs. Gefeiert wurde sie hier u.a. 2020 mit ihrem Début als Prinzessin Eboli in »Don Carlos« unter der musikalischen Leitung von Sébastien Rouland. In der Saison 2023/2024 hatte sie ein vielbeachtetes Début als Judit in »Herzog Blaubarts Burg« und als Fricka und Waltraute in der »Walküre«. Weiterhin wird sie in dieser Spielzeit die Hauptpartie in der Oper »Jeanne d`arc« und die Amneris in »Aida« singen.
Judith Braun war Stipendiatin des Richard-Wagner-Verbandes, Finalistin beim 5. Concorso Vocale Internazionale di Musica Sacra in Rom und wurde für ihre hervorragenden Leistungen in der Spielzeit 2016/2017 als Anita in der » West Side Story« und Kabanicha in »Katja Kabanova« mit dem Sponsorclubpreis des Saarländischen Staatstheaters ausgezeichnet.
Seit April 2020 hat Judith Braun einen Lehrauftrag für Gesang und Fachdidaktik Gesang an der Hochschule für Musik Saar.
Zahlreiche Konzerte und Opernaufführungen mit Judith Braun wurden vom Saarländischen Rundfunk aufgenommen oder live übertragen, darunter das Requiem von Théodore Gouvy (2023) oder die deutsche Uraufführung der Oper „Ophelia“ von Sarah Nemtsov (2023).
Judith Braun, mezzo-soprano, étudie le chant, la didactique et la pédagogie musicale élémentaire à la Hochschule für Musik und Theater de la Sarre. Membre de l’Atelier lyrique de Wiesbaden de 2001 à 2002, elle fait ses débuts à Cagliari en 2006 dans le rôle de Siegrune (La Walkyrie) avec le Badische Staatstheater de Karlsruhe. À compter de la saison 2009-10, elle est engagée au Saarländisches Staatstheater en tant que mezzo soprano, puis passe à des rôles de mezzo-soprano dramatique. En 2020, sa prise de rôle en princesse Eboli (Don Carlos) sous la direction de Sébastien Rouland est particulièrement saluée.
La saison actuelle, 2023-24, lui offre des prises de rôles remarquées en Judit du Château de Barbe-Bleue ainsi que dans les rôles de Fricka et Waltraute (La Walkyrie). Elle chantera également le rôle-titre de La Pucelle d’Orléans et Amneris dans Aïda.
Boursière de l’Association internationale des Cercles Richard-Wagner, finaliste du 5 e Concours vocal international de musique sacrée à Rome, Judith Braun a reçu le Prix du Cercle des mécènes du Saarländisches Staatstheater pour ses prestations exceptionnelles en Anita (West Side Story) et Kabanicha (Katia Kabanova) au cours de la saison 2016-17.
Depuis avril 2020, Judith Braun est chargée de cours de chant à la Haute école de musique de la Sarre.
La radio sarroise a effectué de nombreux enregistrements et retransmissions live de concerts et opéras avec Judith Braun, dont le Requiem de Théodore Gouvy (2023), ou encore la création germanique de l’opéra Ophelia de Sarah Nemtsov (2023).
